OK, here's the deal. We bought this 1986 Camaro Iroc Z-28 with boss cabbage heads credit card. He found out. Either the car goes or Lew goes, so we decided to throw Lew a goodbye party! Just kidding. The car has to go, but being that it needs a bit of vacuuming and some small detailing first, we figured we would tune it up a wee bit. So over the next several weeks follow the Rock Machine Blog for updates on how she's doing and what's being done to her! We intend to work this baby over in a way no one else would bother doing. When all is said and done, we expect over $40,000 to be dropped into this sleeper.
So here's what we've done - so far!
Full paint and bodywork by Ward and the guys at R&W Custom Collision
Ben's Auto & House Glass replaced the Windshield and weather stripping so it didn't leak anymore.
We also needed to throw a little juice under the hood from the crappy stock 190hp V8. Ric's Auto bumped that up a wee bit to around 350hp. Rebuilt that bad boy, threw on Edelbrock Aluminum heads, Manifold, 650 carb, chrome dress up kit to look at pretty and tweaked and tuned her to purr along!
We've pulled the dead mice, and other tings we don't want to know what they were out, and replaced the interior with a stock interior from a donor car, complete with the highly desirable crushed velour seats. Hey we can't afford a new interior so suck it up!
We upped the amperage by tossing in a high torque starter and bigger alternator from Steve's Auto Electric
Al Hopkins dropped the tranny, took one look at it and said "not in this lifetime" chucked it into the garbage and rebuilt a brand new unit for us with more beef. Plus he dropped in a B&M custom shifter to we didn't have to use the screwdriver anymore!
Off to PA Radiator for help to keep it cool, and out with the old and in with a whole new and much better cooling system with a new rad, heater core, and all new hoses!
Then we towed it over to Perry's Automotive for the guys to completely replace all the crap on the front end. New tie rods, ball joints, bushings, anything they saw that wasn't right..out it went and new parts went in!
After that we pushed it down the street to Westview Steering and the gang there hoisted it up and completely replaced the braking system. New rotors, calipers, pads, drums, hoses, cables, the whole kit'n kaboodle! Plus they replaced the rear axle seals and trouble shooted a pile of electrical issues.
Kal Tire got there mitts on it next and found some fantastic rims, the only set they will bring into this area, and slapped on some new shoes including some sweet low profile tires and wheel locks all round!
Then 2nd Ave grabbed it and made sure it tracked right by putting in new power steering pump, hoses, steering box and doing a wheel alignment.
And the saga continues!!!! Keep checking back for more good stuff yet to come

The Rockmachine gets some new temperature control with a Hi-po rad made by the pros at PA Radiator!
Old rad was one inch thick aluminum core with a plastic tank. We replaced the heater core with a new one, new hoses, and a new custom built rad 2 inch all metal – copper and brass 3 row high efficiency. This means more reliable, durable and cools better.
The car leaves the shop with it's new coat
